A wonderful little package arrived on our doorstep today compliments of Benjamin Christie. It was full of samples of Australian herbs, confits, and a Paperbark Smoke oil from Vic Cherikoff Food Services. Benjamin and Vic both work tirelessly to promote awareness of Australian food around the world and with good reason. The aromas and flavors of the products they sent us are intriguing and we can’t wait to start playing with them in our kitchen.
As it happens, we are going to be doing another Holland America Cruise this February, and it will be traveling from Australia to New Zealand. So, this is like a sneak preview of some of the things we can look forward to experiencing this winter. We’re going to try and add on a couple of days at each end of the cruise to take advantage of at least a little bit of what both countries have to offer. It’s still several months away, so we can’t get too excited yet, but come this fall, we’ll be looking for recommendations on where to eat, where to stay, and what to do. Hopefully, some of you will be able to help us out.
In the meantime, we’re off to play with our new Australian ingredients and see what new ideas they spark in our kitchen.
