My first thought of the Idea Shelf came about because many ideas and thoughts get tucked away and to the side, stored on a shelf of ideas. There are good ideas, bad ideas, useful ideas, ideas that need work, idea beginnings, and more. I thought, hey, that is a cool idea to talk about the place where ideas are kept and stored. Yet, as the thought developed, I realized that to talk about a place where you put ideas is pretty stupid if you do not go back and execute them. A spice shelf that merely gathers dust and is never actively used is a dust shelf. Think about the luckiest spice in the world—paprika. If it was never taken off the shelf and used, it would just be another unlucky spice. Sure, it is great to have a shelf full of ideas, books, recipes, great intentions, and more. My problem is that they are on the shelf rather than actively being used, executed, shared, and developed.
